What is a noun in KS1?

A noun is a naming word. In KS1, children learn that nouns can name people, places, things and ideas, such as teacher, school, pencil or fun.

What does phase mean for children?

Phase means a stage or step in something. For example, morning can be one phase of the day, and tidying up can be one phase of a classroom job.

How do children learn new nouns?

Children learn new nouns by hearing them in speech, reading them in books and using them in sentences. Practice helps them remember what each noun means.
