This Spanish Easy Review grammar quiz will test you on conjugating IR verbs in the present tense. Spanish as you know has three different types or forms of verbs. These include verbs that end in ar, er and ir. A series of quizzes have been set up for you to review each of these different types of verbs and how to conjugate each type in the present tense. Remember, conjugating means to break the verb down in parts to form the correct verb spelling that goes along with the correct pronoun (I, you, he, she, we, they).
In the Spanish Easy Review Conjugating AR Verbs - Present Tense (1) and Conjugating ER Verbs - Present Tense (1) you learned that in order to conjugate a verb, you take the base form of the verb, such as hablar (to speak) and then drop the ar. What remains is habl. To that you add the present tense regular verb endings. For ar verbs the endings were - o, as, a, amos, áis, an - and for the er verbs the endings were o, es, e, emos, éis, en. Now we are going to learn the endings for ir verbs. Let’s conjugate the verb vivir (to live).
|Pronoun||Present Tense||English Meaning|
|tú||vives||you live (familiar)|
|usted||vive||you live (formal)|
|nosotros/as||vivimos||we live (note the masculine and feminine forms)|
|vosotros/as||vivís||you live (plural – familiar)|
|ustedes||viven||you live (plural – formal)|
|ellos/ellas||viven||they live (note the masculine and feminine forms)|
As you can see, the ir present tense verb endings are o, es, e, imos, ís, en. This means that ir verbs are very much like er verbs except when it comes to the pronouns 'we' and the plural, familiar 'you'. It is a very minor difference but it makes a big difference in saying the words correctly and spelling the words correctly.
Now that you have had a chance to see an example of how to conjugate an ir verb, it is time to move onto the quiz section. The quiz contains ten present tense regular verbs along with a pronoun. From the answers provided, locate the Spanish present tense verb and pronoun that will match.
