Vocabulary - What Day is It?

This Spanish Easy Review vocabulary quiz is going to cover the days of the week. There is one main, major difference between writing the days of the week in English and writing them in Spanish. That difference has to do with capitalization. In English, we capitalize the days of the week. In Spanish you have the choice to capitalize or not capitalize the days depending upon the circumstances in which they appear. Generally, however, they are not capitalized. The circumstances in which they would be capitalized is when they come at the beginning of a sentence. For example, in English we would say 'Today is Monday.' In Spanish it would be 'Today is lunes.' However, if you were to say 'Monday is here.' In Spanish it would be 'Lunes is here.' The condition makes it acceptable to capitalize it.

Below is a listing of the days of the week. Practice saying each one and become familiar with them. Become so familiar that when you hear them you think in Spanish and not in English.

English Spanish Pronounced (Phonetically) As:
Monday lunes lew-ness
Tuesday martes mar-tĕs
Wednesday miércoles mē-air-cō-less
Thursday jueves hway-vĕs (blend the 'h' and 'w' sounds together)
Friday viernes vē-air-nĕss
Saturday sábado să-bă-dō
Sunday domingo dō-ming-gō

As with every Spanish quiz, it is very important that you spend time reviewing each Spanish word and saying them with the proper pronunciation. Becoming familiar with their spelling, and any accent marks, is also critical. Once you feel that you are familiar with each day in Spanish, move on to the quiz questions below and see if you can find the right day for each question.
