Math - Adding Money
This math quiz will help you to add up different amounts of money in Spanish.

Math - Adding Money

In this Spanish Medium Review quiz you will be looking at adding up money. Being able to add money in Spanish is just another way to help you to learn the Spanish numbers, both small and large. If you have not already done so, please be sure to take a look at all of the Spanish Medium Review quizzes on counting as the answers you may find in this quiz could go into the hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars.

One other thing you need to remember is the Spanish vocabulary for the different types of money. In other words, you need to remember the Spanish words for dollars and cents. If you would like a refresher on money in Spanish, please see and/or review the Spanish Easy Review quiz titled Money Talks.

In order to help you understand how this quiz will work, let’s do one sample problem together. You will be given two dollar amounts to add together. The answer you receive will then need to be written out in Spanish words as follows:

  • $12.15 + $33.48 = _____
  • $12.15 + $33.48 = cuarenta y cinco dólares sesenta y tres centavos ($45.63)

That’s pretty simple, right?! The answers provided for each problem will not, however, show you the answer in number form as the above example does. You will only see the Spanish numbers written out in word form. Again, remember that since you are adding money, the money terms need to appear in your answer. Now, if you are ready, then find the answers to the following ten problems.

1.
$167.71 + $234.56 = ____
cuatro dos dólares veinte y siete centavos
cuatro y cientos dos dólares veinte y siete centavos
cuatrocientos dos dólares veinte y siete centavos
cuatrocientos dos dólares veinte y siete cents
Adding $167.71 + $234.56 = $402.27. The first answer starts out as 4 and 2 not 402 so it is not correct. The second answer has put a 'y' between 4 and 100. This is not the proper format of writing 400 in Spanish. The last answer uses the English word for cents and not the Spanish word making it incorrect. The Spanish answer for $402.27 is cuatrocientos dos dólares veinte y siete centavos.
2.
$3,541.62 + $58.33 = ____
tres mil cincocientos noventa y nueve dólares noventa y cinco centavos
tres mil quinientos noventa y nueve dólares noventa y cinco centavos
tresmil quinientos noventa y nueve dólares noventa y cinco centavos
tres mil quinientos noventa y nueve noventa y cinco centavos
Adding $3,541.62 + $58.33 = $3,599.95. The first answer has used the improper word for 500. It is not cincocientos. The third answer has improperly combined tres with mil for 3,000. This is not how it is done in Spanish. The two words remain separate. The last answer has omitted the amount of dollars which, therefore, also makes it the wrong answer. The Spanish answer for $3,599.95 is tres mil quinientos noventa y nueve dólares noventa y cinco centavos.
3.
$914.40 + $212.40 = ____
un mil ciento veinte y seis dólares ochenta centavos
mil ciento viente y seis dólares ochenta centavos
mil ciento veinte y seis dólares ochenta centavos
mil ciento veinte y seis dolares ochenta centavos
Adding $914.40 + $212.40 = $1,126.80. The first answer has used the indefinite article un (a) before mil (thousand). In Spanish, un is not used to say 1,000. Mil alone says 1,000 so the first answer is not correct. The second answer shows the Spanish number for 20 spelled incorrectly. The last answer has omitted the accent mark above the word on dollars (dólares). Omitting the accent mark makes this answer wrong. The Spanish answer for $1,126.80 is mil ciento veinte y seis dólares ochenta centavos.
4.
$11.11 + $44.66 = ____
cincuenta cinco dólares setenta y siete centavos
cincuenta y cinco setenta y siete
quincuenta y cinco dólares setenta y siete centavos
cincuenta y cinco dólares setenta y siete centavos
Adding $11.11 + $44.66 = $55.77. The first answer has omitted the 'y' between cincuenta and cinco making this answer wrong. The second answer is totally missing the money vocabulary words so it does not tell us the proper answer. The third answer has misspelled the word for 50. The Spanish answer for $55.77 is cincuenta y cinco dólares setenta y siete centavos.
5.
$439,206.11 + $45,821.97 = ____
cuatrocientos ochenta y cinco mil veinte y ocho dólares ocho centavos
cuatrocientos ochenta y cinco veinte y ocho dólares ocho centavos
cuatroceintos ochenta y cinco mil veinte y ocho dólares ocho centavos
cuatrocientos ochenta y cinco mils veinte y ocho dólares ocho centavos
Adding $439,206.11 + $45,821.97 = $485,028.08. The second answer has omitted the Spanish word for thousand (mil). The third answer has misspelled the word for 400. The last answer has improperly added an 's' to mil. The Spanish word mil does not get pluralized. The Spanish answer for $485,028.08 is cuatrocientos ochenta y cinco mil veinte y ocho dólares ocho centavos.
6.
$613,389.60 + $225,150.50 = ____
ochocientos treinta y ocho mil quineintos cuarenta dólares diez centavos
ochocientos treinta y ocho mil quinientos cuarenta dólares diez centavos
ochocientos treinta y ochomil quinientos cuarenta dólares diez centavos
ochocientos treinta y ocho mil quinientos cuarenta dólar diez centavos
Adding $613,389.60 + $225,150.50 = $838,540.10. The first answer has misspelled the Spanish word for 500. The third answer has improperly connected ocho with mil. This is not done in Spanish. The last answer shows the Spanish word for dollar in the singular form when it should be in the plural form. The Spanish answer for $838,540.10 is ochocientos treinta y ocho mil quinientos cuarenta dólares diez centavos.
7.
$399.99 + $1,788.88 = ____
dos mil ciento ochenta y ocho dolares ochenta y siete centavos
dos mil ciento ochenta y ocho dólares ochenta siete centavos
dos mil ciento ochenta y ocho dólares ochenta y siete centavos
dos mil cientos ochenta y ocho dólares ochenta y siete centavos
Adding $399.99 + $1,788.88 = $2,188.87. The first answer has omitted the accent mark above the 'o' in dólares so it is not correct. The second answer is missing the 'y' between ochenta and siete so it, too, is not correct. The last answer has improperly made 100 plural. When the number is one hundred the Spanish word is simply ciento. Between one hundred and one and nine hundred ninety-nine it becomes ciento. No 's' is used. The Spanish answer for $2,188.87 is dos mil ciento ochenta y ocho dólares ochenta y siete centavos.
8.
$911,404.29 + $376,296.37 = ____
millón doscientos ochenta y siete mil setecientos dólares sesenta y seis centavos
un millon doscientos ochenta y siete mil setecientos dólares sesenta y seis centavos
un million doscientos ochenta y siete mil setecientos dólares sesenta y seis centavos
un millón doscientos ochenta y siete mil setecientos dólares sesenta y seis centavos
Adding $911,404.29 + $376,296.37 = $1,287,700.66. The first answer has omitted the un before million. Although you do not say un mil (or uno mil) or un ciento (or uno ciento), once you get to a million, the un is ALWAYS used before 1,000,000. As the first answer does not have this, it is wrong. The second answer has omitted the accent mark above the 'o' in millón making the answer wrong. The third answer shows the English word for million not the Spanish making it wrong as well. The Spanish answer for $1,287,700.66 is un millón doscientos ochenta y siete mil setecientos dólares sesenta y seis centavos.
9.
$1,354,201.15 + $1,597,620.32 = ____
dos millones novecientos cincuenta y uno mil ochocientos veinte y uno dólares cuarenta y siete centavos
dos millones novecientos cincuenta y uno mil ochocientos veinte y uno dólares cuarenta y dos centavos
dos millónes novecientos cincuenta y uno mil ochocientos veinte y uno dólares cuarenta y siete centavos
dos millones novecientos cincuenta y uno mil ochocientos veinte y uno dólares cincuenta y siete centavos
Adding $1,354,201.15 + $1,597,620.32 = $2,951,821.47. The second answer shows the incorrect number in the cents. The third answer has improperly maintained the accent mark over the 'o' in millions. As the accent mark appears in the last syllable of the word, when the word become plural, the accent mark is dropped. The last answer shows the incorrect number in cents. The Spanish answer for $2,951,821.47 is dos millones novecientos cincuenta y uno mil ochocientos veinte y uno dólares cuarenta y siete centavos.
10.
$6,012.09 + $439.52 = ____
seis millón cuatrocientos cincuenta y uno dólares sesenta y uno centavos
seis mil cuatrocientos cincuenta y uno dólares sesenta y uno centavos
seis mil cuatrocientos cincuenta y uno sesenta y uno centavos
seis mil cuatrocientos cincuenta y uno dólares setenta y uno centavos
Adding $6,012.09 + $439.52 = $6,451.61. The first answer shows the incorrect number for 6,000. Rather, it is showing 6,000,000. The third answer has omitted the word dólares making it an incorrect answer. The last answer does not show the correct number. It shows the number $6,451.71. The Spanish answer for $6,451.61 is seis mil cuatrocientos cincuenta y uno dólares sesenta y uno centavos.
