Mattie, Jake and Sue buy some fruit from the greengrocers'. They each have £2.00 to spend. Apples cost 30p and oranges cost 40p. After they had bought their fruit, Mattie had 20p change, Jake had 70p change and Sue had 10p change. Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.

Sue definitely had more pieces of fruit than Mattie
Jake definitely bought only one orange
Mattie definitely had 3 oranges
Sue definitely bought 4 oranges
This is because the only way to spend £1.30 is to buy 3 apples and 1 orange

Read the following statement, then choose the correct answer from the four choices available.

Ryan does not have blue eyes. Darshan does not have green eyes. Grace has brown eyes. Sarah's eyes are not blue and not the same color as Ryan's. Grace has the same color eyes as Ryan. Darshan's eyes are not the same color as Ryan's or Grace's. Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.
All the children have brown eyes
3 of the children have blue eyes
2 of the children have brown eyes
Darshan has green eyes
This is because Grace has brown eyes and she has the same color eyes as Ryan. 'All of the children have brown eyes' is wrong because Darshan's eyes are not the same color as Ryan's or Grace's and we know Grace has brown eyes. '3 of the children have blue eyes' is wrong because Grace has the same color eyes as Ryan (brown) meaning only two children can have blue eyes. Darshan cannot have green eyes because we know Sarah's eyes are not blue, and not the same color as Ryan's. Sarah must have green eyes
3.
Read the following statement, then choose the correct answer from the four choices available.

Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.
Sarah did banana boating
William did paintballing
Andrew did not do archery
Julie did paintballing
This is because we are told Julie did all activities. Andrew did do archery. Andrew and Sarah were the only ones not to do banana boating so 'Sarah did banana boating' must be wrong. Only Andrew and Julie did paintballing so 'William did paintballing' must also be wrong

Michael, Tracy and John all walk to school each day. Michael leaves home at 8.30am and takes twenty minutes to reach school. Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.
Tracy leaves home at 08.45
Tracy leaves home at 08.50
Tracy arrives at the same time as John
Michael arrives at school last
This is because she takes 5 minutes to get to school and arrives 5 minutes after Michael. Michael takes 20 minutes to get to school, and leaves home at 08.30 am. He must arrive at 08.50 which makes Tracy arrive at 08.55. A five minute journey arriving at 08.55 = 08.50

Ranjit, Alexis, Ethan and Abigail want to go online and buy X-Box points. They each have £32 to spend. X-Box points are sold in multiples of £8, so they can only buy £8, £16, £24 or £32 worth of points. Ranjit spends twice as much as Ethan, but half as much as Abigail. Alexis needs to keep £10 back for his sister's birthday so buys as many points as he can while keeping back £10. Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.
Ethan spends £24
Alexis spends £24
Alexis spends £16
Ethan buys the most of all the children
This is because to keep £10 back from his original £32 he can only buy £8 worth of points, or £16 worth of points. Since he wants to buy as many points as he can, he buys £16 worth

Isabella's time was 1 minute 56 seconds

Read the following statement, then choose the correct answer from the four choices available.

George, Abhati and Molly were playing with a die, and taking turns to try to get the highest score. George scored more than Molly, who got an even number. Abhati scored an odd number but scored more than George. Using this information decide which of the following statements is true.

George scored 2
Abhati scored 5
George and Molly's scores added together were less than Abhati's score
George scored 1
This is because she scored an odd number (1, 3, or 5) but scored higher than George, who scored more than Molly. Since Molly scored 2, 4 or 6, George must have scored 3, 4, 5 or 6. For Abhati to score more than George and an odd number, she must have scored 5
