Author - Charlotte Brontë

Charlotte Brontë was born in 1816 in Yorkshire. She was the eldest of the three famous Brontë sisters – Charlotte, Emily and Anne. During their childhood the sisters, together with their brother Branwell, started writing about an imaginary world which they named Angria.

As an adult Charlotte worked as a governess and she taught her own sisters. Their education complete, the sisters attempted to found a school but the project failed. Charlotte then turned her mind to writing and Jane Eyre was published in 1847 under the pen name ‘Currer Bell’. It was the first of only four novels in her short career. Charlotte married in 1854 and, while pregnant, she contracted pneumonia and died in March 1855 at the age of 38.
