Welcome to the fourth and final quiz in this section all about finding words which can’t be made from longer ones. Well done for making it this far. By now, you should be an expert at these kinds of question and won’t need us to show you how to answer them. Good – you should be well prepared if you come across them in your Eleven Plus Verbal Reasoning exam.

As you have been going through the quizzes, you should have learned how to tackle the puzzles in an orderly, systematic and methodical way. That’s a very good habit to learn and it will help you in these, and other types of question.

Which of the following words can NOT be made from the letters of the word POSITIONAL?

It doesn’t matter whether or not you know what the words mean. Just look at the letters they contain and see if they are in the word 'POSITIONAL' the correct amount of times.
The only one of the options which cannot be formed is 'notion', purely because the letter 'N' only appears once in 'POSITIONAL', but twice in ‘notion’.
