This KS2 English spelling quiz will challenge you on graphemes. Graphemes are letters that make a single sound. As you will know from reading, a single sound in the English language can usually be spelled using different letter combinations. These sounds are called 'phonemes' and the letter or letter combination used to spell a phoneme is called a 'grapheme'. In the word 'buzz', the grapheme ‘zz’ only makes one sound. The grapheme 'tch' in 'match' only makes one sound.
Test your knowledge of English with this grapheme quiz. But be careful - if a letter combination represents more than one sound (phoneme), it is NOT a grapheme.
If you don't get full marks in this quiz - don't worry. You can always play it again so that you fully understand about graphemes and phonemes.
