Syllables
In order to write certain types of poetry, you need to know how many syllables are in a word.

Syllables

This KS2 English quiz will challenge you on syllables. Syllables are helpful in the pronunciation of a word. In order to write certain types of poetry, such as a haiku, ballad, sonnet or limerick, you need to know how many syllables are in a word. It can be helpful to think in terms of how many beats a word has. You can try tapping a finger while you say the word. 'Syllable', for example, has three beats, or syllables.

Many words have only one syllable, but some have 5 or more. We even have one question in this quiz where the amount of syllables are in double figures!

Take your time and say the words out loud to help. See if you can get full marks in this quiz.
