Fascinating Fact:

un pantalon means “trousers”.

In KS3 Fast French, clothing nouns help you describe what you are wearing, pack for the weather, and talk about uniforms. This quiz builds confidence with common clothes words and the articles that go with them.

  • Clothing noun: A word for an item you can wear, such as a shirt, shoes, or a coat.
  • Article: A small word that comes before a noun, such as “un”, “une”, “le” or “la”.
  • Gender: In French, every noun is masculine or feminine, and this affects the article and some adjectives.
What are common French clothes words to learn at KS3?

Common KS3 clothes nouns include “un pantalon” (trousers), “un pull” (jumper), “une jupe” (skirt) and “des chaussures” (shoes). Learning these helps you describe outfits and uniforms.

Why does French use un and une for clothes nouns?

“Un” and “une” mean “a” or “an”, but they also show the noun’s gender. Use “un” with masculine nouns and “une” with feminine nouns, even when the item is the same type of thing.

How do I say I am wearing something in French?

You can use the verb “porter”, for example “Je porte un pantalon” (I am wearing trousers). You can also add colours or adjectives, but they may change to agree with the noun.

In each question you will be given a word or words in English. All you have to do is choose the French equivalent from the four choices offered.
