1.
She wanted to show them how to not BOUNCE the bowling ball.
saltó
salta
saltar
saltaron
This one might seem a little tricky at first but let’s break it down. In Spanish, to make a verb negative, you add the word 'no' before it. The 'no' is the same as 'not' in this case. Now, what verb tense is bounce? What word comes before no? It is the preposition of 'to'. If you remove the negative it leaves you with 'to bounce'. You know that when this happens then the verb should appear in its base form. The Spanish base word for 'to bounce' is saltar. It is an AR verb.
2.
I'll COLLECT you from the concert at 11 p.m.
coleccionará
coleccionaré
coleccioné
colecciono
You need to determine the verb tense. As the sentence begins with 'I’ll', this is a conjunction of 'I will'. Ah, since the word 'will' appears before the verb it is a future tense verb. The pronoun of I has been given. Therefore, the Spanish future tense verb for 'I will collect' is coleccionaré. It is an AR verb.
3.
He waited until dark to COMMIT the crime.
cometió
cometiendo
cometes
cometer
In this sentence, as the preposition word of 'to' appears before the capitalized verb you know that it means that the verb should appear in its base form. The Spanish base word for 'to commit' is cometer. It is an ER verb.
4.
These plastic tubs CONTAIN birdseed and fish food.
contienen
contenieron
conteniste
contenéis
The capitalized verb in this sentence is a present tense verb. Now you need to determine the direct object or subject. That would be plastic tubs. Which pronoun can be used to replace plastic tubs? That would be they. Therefore, the Spanish present tense verb for 'they contain' is contienen. It is an ER verb.
5.
We will COVER the jam with brown paper to make it look even more homemade.
cubriremos
cubrimos
cubriréis
cubristeis
Here you have a capitalized verb with the word of 'will' before it. This tells you it is a future tense verb. The pronoun of we is given. The Spanish future tense verb for 'we will cover' is cubriremos. It is an IR verb.

In this sentence a command is being given, i.e., 'do not forget'. Generally when a command is being given the base form of the verb is used. Although you will at times hear and/or see the singular/formal present tense verb used when a command is given, it is best to stick to using the base form at this stage of your learning. The base form for the Spanish verb for 'forget' is olvidar. It is an AR verb.
8.
'Did you PACK the passports?' her mother asked her.
empacarás
empacáis
empacaste
empacas
As the word 'did' appears before the verb we know it is a past tense verb. Here, the pronoun of 'you' is given. In addition, you learn who 'you' is. You learned that 'you' is the daughter of her mother. This is a familiar person. Therefore, the Spanish past tense verb, using the pronoun 'you' form of singular/familiar, is 'empacaste'. It is an AR verb.
