Spelling - Spelling Baseball - 2nd Base

In this Spanish Difficult Review quiz you will continue playing baseball. That is, a spelling baseball game, so let’s get to 2nd base! As you learned in the Spanish Difficult Review quiz titled Spelling Baseball – 1st Base!, this subseries of quizzes has been designed to test you on your Spanish vocabulary and your understanding of Spanish word placement or order. Of course, to test you – why not have a little fun with a game of spelling baseball.

There are four bases in the baseball game, i.e., 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base and home plate. You can quickly get around all the bases if you hit a homerun! That means that each quiz is a little more difficult than the one that preceeded it.

In the Spanish Difficult Review quiz titled Spelling Baseball – 1st Base!, you were given two words to translate with correct words, spelling and placement. Now, in Spelling Baseball – 2nd Base! you will be given three words. Again, it is very important that you pay very close attention to the spelling of each word, the placement of each word, the tense and the gender. Now, do you believe that you are you up for the challenge? Then let’s make that ball fly!

The first answer reads chicken and butter. The second answer reads bacon and steak. The third answer reads strawberries and blueberries and the last answer reads eggs and sausages.

The first answer reads adult is old. The second answer reads adult sings happy. The last answer reads adult helps child. The third answer reads adult wears jeans.

These three words are giving a command. When a command is given, the base verb is used. To find the correct translation you need to know the base verb for visit. In Spanish that is visitar. Each answer has translated this correctly. The first answer reads visit the station. The third answer reads visit the school. The last answer reads visit the inning and the second answer reads visit the stadium.

This comes from a children’s nursery rhyme. The Spanish word for three is tres and the Spanish plural adjective for blind is ciegos (masculine) or ciegas (feminine). Each answer has translated this correctly in its gender form. However, the second answer reads three blind cows. The third answer reads three blind monkeys. The last answer reads three blind donkeys and the first answer reads three blind mice.

Each answer has correctly translated trick as truco and treat as regalo That then leaves the remaining word of 'or'. The first answer reads trick the treat. The second answer reads trick a treat. The last answer reads trick in treat and the third answer reads trick or treat.

The Spanish word for paper is papel and each answer has translated this correctly. Each answer has also given the proper verb tense and pronoun form for 'is'. Notice that each answer shows de papel. This is because you are basically saying: is of paper or that the object is made of paper. The first answer reads wolf is paper. The second answer reads leaf is paper. The third answer reads tongue is paper and the last answer reads tissue is paper.

These three words are giving a command. When a command is given, the base verb is used. Each answer is showing the base form of a verb. The Spanish word for dishes is platos. Again, each answer is showing the correct translation of dishes. The first answer reads break the dishes. The third answer reads rain the dishes. The last answer reads lay (or put) the dishes and the second answer reads wash the dishes.

Here you are being asked for ordinal numbers. The last answer shows cardinal numbers as it reads: eleven, thirty, ninety. It can be eliminated. The second answer reads: twenty-first, twenty-third, twenty-ninth. The third answer reads: forty-first, forty-third, forty-ninth. Finally, the first answer (a) reads: first, third, ninth.

Each answer has correctly translated comes fast as viene rápido. The first answer reads battleship comes fast. The second answer reads billboard comes fast. The last answer reads summer comes fast. Finally, the third answer reads hope comes fast.

Remember that in Spanish when you want to add 'er' to a word, 'más' is placed before the word to make that word more. Therefore, to say 'more hard' you would say 'más duro' which, in turn, means 'harder'. Each answer has correctly translated this. The Spanish word for than is que. (Note no accent mark. If this word had an accent mark, i.e., qué) it would read as what. Each answer again has translated this correctly. The first answer reads harder than cement. The second answer reads harder than furniture. The third answer reads harder than daffodil and the last answer reads harder than stone.
