Vocabulary - A Verb Explosion!

At this point in your journey of learning how to speak Spanish you should have a good understanding in connection with conjugating verbs in the present tense (presente) and a beginning understating of conjugating verbs in the past tense (pretérito). Because of your current understanding, this Spanish Medium Review quiz will be focusing your attention on being able to conjugate verbs.

While learning the verbs, you have also learned that verbs are either regular or irregular. In fact, some verbs are regular in the present tense while being irregular in the past tense and visa-versa. Because your Spanish vocabulary list is currently composed of close to 160 different verbs, you need to take a little time to at this junction of your learning to really focus in on each of those verbs. This quiz is going to focus on only 15 verbs and their conjugations. You will need to pay very close attention as to whether the verb is regular or irregular.

TRABAJAR (to work): (regular in present / regular in past)

  • Present Tense: (yo) trabajo; (tú) trabajas; (él/ella/usted/lo) trabaja; (nosotros/as) trabajamos; (vosotros/as) trabajáis; (ellos/ellas/ustedes/los) trabajan
  • Past Tense: (yo) trabajé; (tú) trabajaste; (él/ella/usted/lo) trabajó; (nosotros/as) trabajamos; (vosotros/as) trabajasteis; (ellos/ellas/ustedes/los) trabajaron

SALTAR (to skip / jump / hop): (regular in present / regular in past)

  • Present Tense: (yo) salto; (tú) saltas; (él/ella/usted/lo) salta; (nosotros/as) saltamos; (vosotros/as) saltáis; (ellos/ellas/ustedes/los) saltan
  • Past Tense: (yo) salté; (tú) saltaste; (él/ella/usted/lo) saltó; (nosotros/as) saltamos; (vosotros/as) saltasteis; (ellos/ellas/ustedes/los) saltaron

DESPERTAR (to wake up): (irregular in present / regular in past)

  • Present Tense: (yo) despierto; (tú) despiertas; (él/ella/usted/lo) despierta; (nosotros/as) despertamos; (vosotros/as) despertáis; (ellos/ellas/ustedes/los) despiertan

QUERER (to want): (irregular in present / irregular in past)

TRAER (to bring): (irregular in present / irregular in past)

POSEER (to own / possess): (regular in present / irregular in past)

PEDIR (to ask / order): (irregular in present / irregular in past)

Once you have learned these 15 verbs, move onto the quiz section. There are ten sentences with each sentence having a verb that has been shown in all capitalized letters. From the answers provided, see how quickly you can locate the correct Spanish verb and form that translates the capitalized verb. Now for the verbs.

Here the verb is being used in the present tense. The last answer is a completely misspelled word so that can be quickly eliminated. The Spanish verb for 'to look' is mirar. It is an AR verb.
