Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947. He wrote as a teenager and had his first publication in 1967 when a short story, The Glass Floor, was included in a magazine. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1970, with a B.A. in English, and soon after began working as a teacher.

King’s first novel Carrie was published in 1974 and others followed including Salem's Lot, The Shining and Misery. King has written more than 60 novels and hundreds of short stories. Over 30 of his works (novels and short stories alike) have been made into films. Non-fiction books, e-books and even graphic novels have also come from the pen of this multi-award winning author.
