How well do you know the elements in the Periodic Table? What about lead, arsenic and krypton?
Each element is given a symbol to represent the element. For example, the symbol for Oxygen is O. They symbol for helium is He. The symbol for gold is Au. The symbol for Magnesium is Mg.
You will notice that the symbol for some elements is very different from the English name of the element. This is because the symbol uses either the Latin form of the word or because the element itself was once known by a different name and the original name is where the symbol was taken from. For example, gold is derived from Aurium, hence Au.
