'Ned ate three hot dogs.' Now translate that sentence, and then write it in Spanish. Can you?

In this Spanish Medium Review quiz you will be able to continue your practice of writing out sentences from English to Spanish. Writing is a task that helps you memory and when it comes to learning a new language, new anything really, we all want to be able to draw upon sound memory.
As you did in the first Spanish Medium Review writing quiz titled English to Spanish (1), this quiz contains ten short sentence in English. Your tasks are to first write down the Spanish translation of the given sentence and then see if you can match up your written sentence with one of the answers that has been provided for you. Always remember to pay close attention to spelling and verb tenses and, of course, any accent marks.
1.
Grandfather likes to drill.
Abuelo gusta cantar.
Abuelo gusta taladrar.
Abuelo gusta rastrillar.
Abuelo gusta dormir.
Each answer has correctly translated 'Grandfather likes'. However, the first answer states 'likes to sing'. The third answer states 'likes to rake', and the last answer states 'likes to sleep'. The second answer, on the other hand, states 'likes to drill' and is the proper full translation.
2.
The manager invaded the apartment.
El gerente tomó el apartamento.
El gerente invadió el apartamento.
El gerente implicó el apartamento.
El gerente mueve el apartamento.
Each answer has correctly translated 'the manager' and 'the apartment'. The verb is invaded which is a past tense verb. The last answer shows a present tense form of the verb so it can be eliminated. Next you need to determine the pronoun for the manager. That would be he. The first answer states 'he took' and the third answer states 'he involved'. Neither of these is correct. The second answer states 'he invaded' and contains the proper full translation.

The book is in the library.
El libro está en la biblioteca.
El pájaro está en la biblioteca.
La mantequilla está en la biblioteca.
La vaca está en la biblioteca.
Each sentence has correctly translated 'is in the library'. However, the second answer states that the bird is in the library. The third answer states that the butter is in the library, and the last answer states that the cow is in the library. Those are definitely not correct. The first answer states that the book is in the library and it contains the proper full translation.

Charles’ brother goes to college.
Va al colegio Carlos de hermano.
El hermano va al colegio de Carlos.
Carlos’ hermano va al colegio,
El hermano de Carlos va al colegio.
To get this one correct you must pay attention to the order of the words. Note that in Spanish possession is not shown with an apostrophe. Therefore, the third answer can be eliminated as the improper form. To show that the brother is Charles’ brother, in Spanish it would be shown as 'the brother of Charles', i.e., el hermano de Carlos. The last answer is the only answer to show this correctly and it is the only correct order of all of the words.

Zachery plays the French horn.
Zachery jugó la trompa de llaves.
Zachery juego la trompa de llaves.
Zachery juega la trompa de llaves.
Zachery jugué la trompa de llaves.
Each answer has correctly translated Zachery and 'the French horn'. The verb is plays which is a present tense verb. The first and last answers show the past tense form of the verb so they can be eliminated. Next determine which pronoun can replace Zachery. That would be he. The second answer states 'I play' which is not correct. The third answer states 'he plays' and contains the proper full translation.

She needed to add cinnamon.
Ella necesitó añadir arándanos.
Ella necesitó añadir especia.
Ella necesitó añadir canela.
Ella necesitó añadir queso.
Each sentence has correctly translated 'She needed to add'. However, the first answer states that she needed to add blueberries. The second answer states she needed to add spice, and the last answer states she needed to add cheese. All of these are incorrect. The third answer states that she needed to add cinnamon and it contains the proper full translation.

Each of the answers has correctly translated 'are my stockings'. Therefore, you need to focus on the question word for 'where'. The second answer asks how. The third answer asks which, and the last answer asks why. On the other hand, the first answer asks where and contains the proper full translation.
8.
Ned ate three hot dogs.
Ned comió cinco perros calientes.
Ned comió siete perros calientes.
Ned comió treinta perros calientes.
Ned comió tres perros calientes.
Each answer has correctly translated 'Ned ate' and 'hot dogs' leaving only the number three to be translated. The first answer says 5. The second answer says 7, and the third answer says 30. The last answer does state 3 and shows the proper full translation.

Karen won a ticket!
Karen ganó un billete!
¡Karen ganó un billete!
¡Karen ganó un billete.
Karen ganó un billete.
This one is a little tricky because each answer has correctly translated 'Karen won a ticket'. However, you need to also pay attention to the punctuation marks. The given sentence shows an exclamation point (!). Therefore, it must be in the answer and in Spanish it must come before and after the sentence. Only the second answer shows the correct usage of the punctuation mark.
10.
My uncle gave me a cellphone.
Mi tió dio me un teléfono celular.
Mi tió me dio un teléfono celular.
Mi tió me da un teléfono celular.
Mi tió da un teléfono celular.
Each answer has correctly translated 'my uncle' and 'a cellphone'. The verb is gave which is the past tense form of the verb. The third and last answers show the present tense form of the verb so they can be eliminated. In Spanish when something is given to a person, it is stated in Spanish as 'to me he gave'. This means that 'me' comes before the verb. The first answer shows it after the verb. The second answer shows the correct word order and proper full translation.
