Fascinating Fact:

dangereux (dangereuse) means “dangerous”, sûr(e) means “safe/sure”.

In GCSE Fast French, “useful adjectives” are the ones you can drop into speaking and writing to add detail quickly. You will practise describing people, places and experiences, and you will also build confidence with agreement, so your adjectives match the noun they describe in gender and number.

  • Adjective: A describing word that adds detail to a noun, such as its colour, size, mood, or quality.
  • Agreement: In French, adjectives usually change form to match the noun, for example masculine/feminine and singular/plural.
  • Feminine form: The version of a French word used with feminine nouns, often made by adding or changing an ending.
How do French adjectives agree with nouns at GCSE?

French adjectives usually change to match the noun they describe. You may need a masculine or feminine form, and you often add a plural ending when the noun is plural.

Do French adjectives go before or after the noun?

Many French adjectives come after the noun, but some common ones can come before it. Learning a few frequent “before the noun” adjectives helps your GCSE writing sound more natural.

Why do accents matter in French spelling?

Accents are part of the correct spelling in French and can affect pronunciation. Using the right accent also shows accuracy in GCSE writing, even when the meaning stays similar.
