Fascinating Fact:

une école means “a school”, une université means “a university”.

In GCSE Fast French, learning place vocabulary helps you describe where you are, where you are going, and what your town has. It also supports role-plays, photo cards, and writing tasks about daily life and travel.

  • Place noun: A word that names a location, such as a building, a public space, or a venue you might visit.
  • Gender: Whether a French noun is masculine or feminine, which affects the article and any adjectives you use with it.
  • Preposition: A linking word used with places, like “to”, “in”, or “at”, which helps you show movement or location clearly.
How do I say “I am going to” a place in French GCSE?

Use a common going-to phrase and add the place with the correct preposition. Then you can add a time word like “today” or “this weekend” to make it exam-ready.

When do I use “au”, “à la”, or “aux” for places in French?

These are “à” plus the definite article. You choose the form based on whether the place noun is masculine, feminine, or plural, so checking gender is key.

What are easy French direction phrases for GCSE speaking?

Useful phrases include “Where is…?”, “How do I get to…?”, and short direction words like left, right, and straight on. Keep them short and pronounce clearly for marks.

In each question you will be given a word or words in English. All you have to do is choose the French equivalent from the four choices offered.
