Fascinating Fact:

“Partir” means to leave, and it is often used with “pour” to say where someone is going.

In GCSE Fast French, confident verb use lets you say what you do, what you did, and what you are going to do. This quiz builds speed with common infinitives, irregular forms, and structures like negatives and near-future phrases.

  • Near future: A way to talk about what you are going to do, using “aller” + an infinitive, for example “je vais partir”.
  • Irregular verb: A verb that does not follow the usual pattern of endings, so you must learn its forms, like “avoir” and “être”.
  • Preposition: A short word placed before a noun or place to show a relationship, such as “à”, “de”, or “pour”.
How do you use the infinitive in French GCSE sentences?

In GCSE French, the infinitive is used after another verb or a phrase, such as “je vais”, “j’aime”, or “il faut”. It keeps the verb in its base form, like “partir”.

What is the difference between present and near future in French?

The present tense describes what happens now or regularly, like “je pars”. The near future describes what is going to happen soon, like “je vais partir”.

Which French verbs should I learn first for GCSE?

Start with high-frequency verbs that work across many topics, such as “être”, “avoir”, “aller”, “faire”, “pouvoir”, and “vouloir”. They help you build useful sentences quickly.
